SLO DOWN
SLO hosts a pop-up shop in Taipei’s Da’an District until March 31st
Everyone knows what fast fashion looks like: knock-offs, sweat shops, polyester. However, let me introduce you to ‘SLO’ fashion (because I am truly obsessed).
I was lucky enough to stumble onto SLO’s limited-time-only storefront in the trendy Taipei neighborhood of Da’an. So far I’ve purchased two sweaters, a pair of pants, and three Taipei-exclusive necklaces.
Before we get into my review, the items I recommend, and what I want to see in the future of the brand, let me set the stage for you. Based in Shanghai, SLO, occasionally referred to as SLO WARDROBE, is a women's clothing brand founded by content creator Freda Liu. Currently in its 6th year of operation, the brand has expanded its online presence with two pop-ups (Shanghai & Taipei). In terms of style, I’d say it’s akin to COS or Massimo Dutti with a little more personality and edge. SLO offers heritage basics along with some truly unique pieces. It forays into accessories and jewelry, but, for me, it really shines in outerwear and sweaters.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
SLO starts to do what I crave from brands in 2026. It produces high-quality staples as well as un-basic basics. The material tags in the clothing largely display my favorite words: 100% wool, merino, cashmere, leather, or cotton. In 2026, I refuse to pay for anything other than natural fibers. Gone are the days of unintentionally-purchased petroleum byproducts. That’s why the first thing I want to shout out about the brand is its devotion (for the most part) to providing stylish products with luxurious threads. I will note that NOT every product is constructed with natural materials, so it is worth checking the tag to verify the composition.
Another thing I want to commend is the fair pricing of the products. For the style, materiality and craftsmanship, I think the prices of SLO’s collection are exceedingly realistic. For example, the ‘California Heritage Suede Leather Jacket’ is just over $300 USD with VAT included. (Please note that I want to buy this jacket for myself, so please don’t sell it out before I can place my order).
I’ll shift gears here and draw your eye to the brand’s inconsistent sizing. If you browse in-store or online, you’ll notice that the product line typically only offers two sizes per product. A lot of the clothing is designed with a boxier, boyfriend style, so the products still do tend to fit a variety of body shapes and sizes. If you are typically an XS or XL, sizing might currently be a challenge.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS
I’ve been to the pop-up shop twice in the last two days. The first time I visited, I was about to leave empty-handed when I spotted the gorgeous California suede coat by the door. It reeled me back inside and encouraged me to take a SLOwer (teehee) browse through the shop. In the end, I made a very happy purchase. That previously mentioned coat, which I am still trying to figure out how to bring home with non-existent suitcase space, is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to SLO’s excellently designed products.
Here are three of my recommendations:
A hair under $255 USD, the ‘Winter Prelude Wool Coat’ puts an inventive spin on a winter basic: the gray coat. With a detachable scarf and reversible design, this coat proves that there is more to it than meets the eye. This coat is a heavenly cocktail of 80% wool, 10% mulberry silk, and 10% alpaca. I will note that this is a case of limited sizing as the jacket only comes in one size.
The ‘Mist Wool Vest’ is described as ‘soft as mist, light as a breeze’ on the website. With a composition of 95.7% sheep wool and 4.3% cashmere, I can attest that it is really that soft. It comes in four colors: Cloud White, Moss Grey, Butter Yellow, and, my personal favorite, Sapwood Green. At $78.99 USD, I struggle to imagine where you will find a better deal or a softer sweater vest.
The ‘Luna Hobo Bag’ is a casual, soft leather shoulder bag with ample storage space. It comes in two colorways and features a magnetic closure to ensure secure stowage. What I like about this bag, aside from the reasonable price of $260.91 USD, is its classicness. This handbag is in a timeless shape and lacks any branding; even the cow print version feels palatable because of the easy-to-style, neutral coloring. Freda’s playful eye has expertly fashioned this statement bag into an everyday piece.
Be sure to check out the shop before it closes on March 31st
WHAT I WANT TO SEE FROM SLO IN THE FUTURE
100% commitment to natural fibers. The brand already does better than most when it comes to fabricating its line, but if I am making a wishlist for Freda, that would be at the top!
Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, the sizing could use a bit of expansion and tailoring. Because there are often only two or three sizes offered, the fit of the clothing might not be exactly as you’d wish.
I’d also like to see more clear messaging regarding the ethos of the brand and relationship with its founder. I had to do some serious sleuthing to find any information about the identity of SLO. Without an easily-accessible brand story, I feel like I don’t fully understand the purpose of the line, which is a shame because it is clear that Freda invests a lot of time and energy into cultivating an intentional label. Adding an ‘About the Brand’ page on the website or Instagram would fill in some key pieces of information and stop the brand from feeling a bit anonymous.
The only other thing I would hope to see from Freda is expansion! Namely, I would like to see the SLO pop-up tour jump across the Pacific to the States and beyond. This is a brand that I think will translate very well to women from around the world. With global interest, I would like to see Freda design swimwear, footwear, and eyewear next.
In the meantime, I am officially a fan of SLO and can’t wait to see what Freda will present in future launches. Now, I need to get back to the game of packing Tetris so I can buy that gorgeous suede coat!
A limited selection of silver-toned jewelry is also available
