ARE YOU WEARING THE- CHANEL BOOTS? YEAH. I AM.

What to wear to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2 in cinema

Audiences wore pink to Barbie (2023), suits to Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), but now it’s time to dress up for the love child of fashion and cinema: The Devil Wears Prada 2, coming to theaters on May 1, 2026.

The sophomore film to the iconic The Devil Wears Prada (2006) is sure to be a fashionable delight onscreen, but Anne Hathaway, reprising her role as Andy Sachs, wants to take the fashion a step further. Hathaway told Vogue, “I’m hoping everybody dresses up and goes to the movies.” She later goes on to say, “I’m hoping that everybody puts on their favorite Miranda Priestly-approved outfit and just has a blast.”

In that second quote, Hathaway asks for one tall order. A blast I can have. However, a Miranda Priestly-approved outfit? Now that is the ambition an assistant at Runway needs!

Spoilers have no place in this article, so feel free to read ahead if you want to preserve a sense of mystery around the upcoming flick. (We’ve waited 20 years for this sequel, after all). The point of this article is to share what I would wear, budget be damned, to the screening to hopefully (fingers and toes crossed) get a Miranda Priestly smile. (Remember legend has it that she’s only given one to Tom Ford in 2001).

To start my styling, I think it’s important to note that the second film is 20 years in the future. Times have changed. If the devil was wearing Prada in 2006, I’d say the devil would be wearing Miu Miu in 2026. Slightly trendier, but still in the Prada family, Miu Miu has been a leader with Gen Z consumers. Olivia Rodrigo is even the brand’s new face. That’s why I would start the look with a cognac-colored Miu Miu cropped leather jacket.

Working my way down, I’d throw a simple tank top under the jacket. For that, I turn to the gold standard for luxury basics: The Row. Made in the US and fabricated with 100% cotton, the Frankie muscle tank parallels the ruggedness of the leather jacket, and mutes the theatricality of the lower half of my outfit.

Ever since I saw it, I knew I needed to work the butter yellow midi skirt from Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel Spring/Summer 2026 show into an article. Well, today’s the day! The texture, volume, and playful floral hem reinterpret the classic, potentially boring, column skirt. This piece feels like a true fashion history moment, something Carrie Bradshaw would immediately forgo a month’s rent to own.

For footwear, I’m going to sidestep (pun intended) the iconic Chanel boots and pursue a sensible 95mm strappy pair of Manolo Blahnik sandals. When the film comes out in May, we can hope it’s going to be a gorgeous spring day and finally warm enough to thaw our summer footwear. This pair of pastel yellow leather and satin shoes expertly pulls all the colors of the outfit into one sandal. The cognac of the jacket is mirrored in the brown-toned gems on the straps over the toes. A halo of pearls around the gems mirrors the white color of the tank. These flirty Manolos were made for this ensemble. (And- word to the wise- they’re currently on sale on MyTheresa).

And finally, every fashion girl's pièce de résistance, the handbag. I must complete this look with a nod to the first film: a cerulean (not lapis, not turquoise) mini Kelly. The summery pop of color artfully contrasts the orange-toned leather jacket. It’s an eye-catching classic with personality. Who wouldn’t love her?

Whether you wear a thrifted avant garde masterpiece, a collection of this season’s designer labels, or an original design, I (and Anne) encourage you to have fun and wear something that makes you feel fashionable and immersed in Runway when you watch The Devil Wears Prada 2

All I ask is that you keep the athleisure at home.

That’s all.
