THE GODDESS OF METHOD-DRESSING IS BACK

Ranking Zendaya's ODYSSEY- inspired looks

Ahead of Christopher Nolan’s next screen adaptation, pop culture commentators and forums are bursting with anticipation. Devoted to secrecy and the element of surprise, Nolan prefers to keep most of his films’ narrative attributes under wraps. However, when the source material is nearly 3,000 years old, as is the case with Homer’s THE ODYSSEY, it feels like there will be few truly shocking moments in the film. Spectacle, then, is what Nolan must rely on to attract a wide-reaching audience. Fortunately for the Oscar-winning director and producer, he has brilliantly cast Gen Z’s fashionable Zendaya Coleman (professionally Zendaya) to herald some pageantry onto the red carpet.

Zendaya, who plays goddess Athena in the upcoming picture, has been emblematic of the method-dressing movement on projects such as The Greatest Showman (2017), the Spider-Man projects, and Dune trilogy. For those unfamiliar with the term, method-dressing is a performative marketing tool that consists of styling stars in a wardrobe that mirrors the characters, themes, settings, and motifs of the project they are promoting. Law Roach, Zendaya's longtime stylist, has unsurprisingly delivered numerous Hellenic looks that have the fashion-community salivating. Today, I will rank nine of Zendaya's ensembles, worn on carpets, talk shows, and press junkets.
